GUIDELINES
Here are our guidelines for Authors.
* Illustrator submission guidelines are coming soon. *
Before submitting manuscripts please read through the following guidelines.
-
All works must be original and previously unpublished.
-
Manuscripts should be no longer than 400 words. If your manuscript is not in rhyme or verse we recommend an even lower word count. While we will not actually conduct a word count, we encourage you to keep in mind the age of our target audience.
-
Manuscripts are accepted from authors worldwide, but must be written in English.
- You may submit your work with illustrations or with illustration notes.
Please Note: Providing illustrations or notes, without absolute necessity (and extreme talent), can have a negative effect on your application. Ideally we are looking for exceptional text only for submissions, which naturally provide the reader with vivid imagery.
- Manuscripts must be submitted via email. To do so simply fill out the short form on our Submissions/Contact' page and we will email you our submission form.
-
Manuscripts need to be saved and emailed as either a Microsoft Word document (.doc) or PDF file. We are unable to open files saved as a .docx document so please make sure you save your files correctly.
-
The first page should hold the following information:
-
Your full name
-
Contact phone number
-
Your location and time zone
-
You may provide a brief biography of yourself and your story if you choose, but please limit this to 200 words.
-
-
Your manuscript should start on the following page.
-
Manuscripts should be typed in a plain fonts such as Times New Roman, Arial or Tahoma.
- Most importantly, we are looking for imaginative stories that tell a story. While your story can be centred on a theme such as bedtime, cleanliness etc it is important to remember that we are looking for creative and spellbinding tales, not educational books.
PROCESS
Once your story is ready for submission, simply fill in the form on the 'Submissions/Contact' page and we will you email you our submission form.
At this point in time, you can generally expect to hear back from us within a period of two (2) months.
Due to the heavy workload it is not possible to respond to all email queries, i.e. outside of manuscript submissions. For the best way to keep up to date with what is happening at Cradle Fables we recommend you either follow us on Twitter or opt to have our blog updates sent to your email through our RSS feeder.
GOOD LUCK & HAPPY WRITING!
